Adrienne R. Schwarte, M.F.A. is Associate Professor of Design at Maryville College, Blackberry Farm Gallery Director of the Clayton Center for the Arts and Art Director of the Maryville College Design Lab (MCDL) in Maryville, Tennessee. She currently serves as Education and Sustainability Chair for AIGA Knoxville, is the MC Faculty Representative for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) and the Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System (STARS) Research Administrator for MC, and Past Chair of the Environment and Forestry Advisory Committee at Maryville College.
Adrienne received her Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) from the University of Minnesota. She teaches sustainable art and graphic design courses and holds a Professional Certificate in Campus Sustainability Leadership from the Institute for Global Sustainability at the University of Vermont. Her current research, publications and creative production are focused on social activism and environmental sustainability within graphic design, graphic design practices towards climate change mitigation within environmental organizations, geotourism principles and experiential travel-study abroad and non-for-profit design.
